The story of the Pilgrims coming to America will be the focus at the beginning of this month. Students will learn of the hardships of life and how those who survived were those who learned that in order to survive they had to help each other and rely on each other. We will compare their experiences to the experiences of the settlers of Jamestown. The concluding activity will be a feast that begins with 5 kernels of corn, "lest we forget."

We will be learning about the bombing of Pearl Harbor during World War II on December 7th. This will include reading excerpts from a sailor's diary and studying maps of where the battleships were located on that "day of infamy."

Since we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day this month, we will also start reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. This is a great book to help understand some of the prejudices still alive today.
